3rd Annual Can-Am All Breeds Equine Emporium East

Three years running, the Can-Am Show in Nova Scotia is an event not to miss.  Gary will start a colt with his 5 step method.  Looking forward to the lobster.

REPORT FROM NOVA SCOTIA

The Can-Am Show in Windsor, Nova Scotia was a great weekend.  ImageGary started a 4 year old buckskin that was a very big boy.  Each day Gary gave him the opportunity to buck and play and each day he gained more trust and confidence.  That colt was Gary's buddy by the 3rd session.  Gary normally works with 2 year old colts which are only Halter Broke, but this time, it was difficult to find one from way out West, so, this big boy was his student.  The first session was a wake-up call for the buckskin, and it wasn't too long before he realized that Gary wasn't going to hurt him.  Image

We are looking forward to returning to Windsor to do some clinics.  Hope to see everyone again and look for clinic dates to follow.

Colt Starting Clinic by the St. Paul Ag. Society | Print |  E-mail

Image  October 20, 2007, St. Paul, AB  -  The students were eager and ready to start their colts. The colts were nervous and the trainer was calm.... those colts were going to change a bunch in the following days.

Day one showed the colts how ground manners worked.

They all learned quickly and the students did too.  The days continued and although they were long, everyone was excited about a challenge and found their way with the horse.

ImageRichard was the prime example of a determined student.  'Just hang on to that cotton sack-out rope' (no matter how fast the horse runs).

Well, there were 5 great days and everyone learned alot.

The horses returned home with a new look on life, the students were ready to use the method consistently and we all went home having enjoyed the company and the great hospitality.

ImageBig thanks go out to the St. Paul Ag Society - Diane in particular - for working with us and putting on a really great week.

Well, the weather was perfect for Ivan's picnic.  The colts were green, and the trainers ready.

In the round pens, the colts stood waiting to test their teachers. It was a perfect setting for an interesting day of Colt Starting.

Gary and Keith showed their colt starting methods on Thursday morning and after lunch, the Ivanator took his place in the pen.  He had some work to do on one of his 5 year olds as well.

Gary worked on Ivan's wife's 5 year old mare and they both made amazing progress.

Great job Ivan!  Thanks for the invitation, it was just a great day!
